Welcome to Microenterprise Answers to your Personal Success – MAPS for short. My name is Cheryl Antier and I’m your host. I’m a former VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) Leader. If you don’t know, VISTA is kind of like the domestic branch of the Peace Corps. These days I’m a writer – copywriter, ghostwriter and travel writer and I spend most of my time living on the French Riviera.
I put together this Website because there are a lot of entrepreneurs like you - good, hardworking people who are struggling in this economy. And like you, they know the only true security left is to build their own businesses, and be their own boss. To be responsible for how much they make, based on their own work and abilities.
The thing is, there is a lot of help for business owners today, in the form of grants and small business loans and other forms of what I like to call ‘creative capital’ – which doesn’t necessarily mean cash in your pocket, but may provide you with other items that you’d have to pay for anyway – which means by getting them, you could use the money you paid for other things your business needs.
The problem is, sometimes it’s not easy to find the information you need.
Either because the funding is tied to specific programs, which aren’t well-advertised or explained or because sometimes the people running the programs act like it’s their personal money being given away, and they want to have the power to decide who gets it. (Those are the ones that make me really mad – especially when we’re talking about government funded-programs, because it’s OUR tax dollars that are at work to help and support us!)
Anyway, that’s why I created the Microenterprise Success site way back in 2004, and it’s why I’m having my team do the research today – so we can update it with all the resources you need NOW – in 2010 – and beyond.
So, feel free to look around the Website – you’ll find microenterprise resources from each state, information about taxes, business development information, and so much more. Also, we’re still putting together more resources, so you might want to bookmark us, or better yet, sign up to be on our mailing list, so I can let you know when there’s new information.
